Michael Sam, was the first admittedly gay athlete to be drafted by an NFL team.
Sam, has now signed a two-year contract with the CFL team, the Montreal Alouettes.
Alouettes team manager, Jim Popp said that Sam has made the organization better already. He went on to say that Sam is not only a fantastic football player, but a person with outstanding character.
The Alouettes have possessed the exclusive CFL rights to Sam since his final season at Missouri.
Sam was voted the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year back in college.
Popp never took Sam's sexuality into consideration.
Sam was originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2014 draft.
Sam did not make the team.
The Dallas Cowboys released Sam from their practice squad in October, and he was a free agent since that time.
